Doris Mader 2x Silber in Argentinien
Doris Mader had a reason to celebrate in Buenos Aires. In the single and the team competition she won the silver-medal at the Argentinean Open, which was the last chance to qualify for the Paralympics 2012 in London.
Despite a great 4th place at the European Championships 2011 the qualification for London was not yet secure. So Doris Mader and her supporting staff Johann Knoll and Thomas Haider practiced a lot to get the crucial points for the world rankings.
At the single competition she lost 0:3 against the currently best player Anna Ahlquist from Sweden. In the preliminary rounds she won 3:2 against Frederica Cudia from Italy. Motivated by this win, she managed to reach the finals, where she lost 1:3 against Anna Ahlquist from Sweden. “The pressure and strains were enormously high. Only a win in the single competition makes many points for the world ranking. The win against Frederica was very important, she was early eliminated, I reached the finals. The final against Anna was very close.”, said Doris Mader, no12 in world rankings.
Even in the team competition she could persuade. Together with Irin Rena McCarron-Rooney they reached the finals, where they lost 1:3 against Anna Ahlquist/SWE and Frederica Cudia/ITA. “I´m totally happy! In the team competition I didn´t lose a game. Altogether I won 10 games and I had only 2 defeats against the no3 of the world rankings. 2x silver and many important points for the world rankings. It could have ended quite differently but: London I´m coming!”, said Doris Mader.
Andreas Vevera is also very happy about Doris´ success. Not only because she´s his partner but also because she´s his trainer. As European Champion 2011 he´s already qualified for the Paralympics 2012 and did not have to travel to Argentina and could relax. “It was very hard for me. I know this pressure. Every day I waited for my results. I am so happy for her, but also for me. Without her I would be out of luck at the Paralympics. However, we´re making a break now but soon we´ll start the operation medal-at-the-Paralympics 2012”, said defending champion for Paralympics 2012 Andreas Vevera.
